Student Descriptions:

1. Grade Level- 7th grade
Subject- Language Arts
Class size- 30 students

2. Three students with disabilities in our class our Anna who has been diagnosed with ADHD, Eric who has been diagnosed with a conduct disorder, and Luke who has been diagnosed with dyslexia.



Anna

ADHD-
Anna is a 12 year old girl in 7th grade. She was diagnosed with ADHD when she was in 4th grade. Her type of ADHD falls into the category of hyperactivity. Anna constantly touches objects and people in any given environment she is in. She has difficulty remaining still for any length of time. She continually taps her feet while sitting at her desk. She continually is talking to those around her, disrupting the class. When she gets overly frustrated with an activity, she abruptly leaves the classroom. Anna is highly enthusiastic, she is always the first one to volunteer to read aloud or pass back papers. She is very friendly and outgoing. She is never alone and likes a lot of social company. Academically Anna has difficulty completing class work and tests on time. Due to her constant need for movement and social activity class work is not always completed within the allotted amount of time. In testing situations Anna cannot remain still or focused long enough to complete the test. She continually looks around the classroom and at other students. Anna is very creative and eager to express and share her thoughts. Her reading is below grade level (reading at 5th grade level). She is a strong writer when she is able to sit and remain focused. When put in the right environment with less distraction she is better able to perform. Her math scores are average.

Eric

Emotional Disturbance-
Eric is a 12-year-old boy in 7th grade. He has been a diagnosed with a conduct disorder in 5th. Eric will lash out in outbursts. Sometimes his outbursts are verbal outbursts that include screaming and yelling profanities. Other times he has physical outbursts, where he throws things on the floor or around the room. He gets frustrated with simple tasks in the classroom. Other students are often times scared to be around Eric of his sudden and violent outbursts. When he is really in a good mood, he is very enjoyable to be around and helpful in the classroom. He excels in leadership positions when he is in a good mood. Days were outbursts occur highly disrupt the classroom. He often times need to removed from the classroom, isolated to his own space within the classroom. Eric is always on the defense. It is very hard to give him criticism in the constructive form. He works better on independent activities. He is very creative and wants his ideas to be heard. Academically his math scores are on grade level. Language Arts is somewhat of a struggle for him. During group discussions it is hard for him to communicate because he cannot verbalize what he wants to say articulately. He paranoid what other students are thinking of him. Making it hard for him to focus his attention on the task at hand. He performs better on written assignments because he can more easily express thoughts and opinions.


Luke

Learning Disability-
Luke is a 7th grade boy who was diagnosed with dyslexia in third grade. Math is hard for Luke because numbers listed or grouped are often seen as jumbled up to him. Therefore it is difficult for him to understand and comprehend the concepts because he is too busy deciphering what the numbers are. He excels at reading, but has great difficulty writing or typing responses because the communication between the brain and the hand is disconnected. However, he is very good at speaking and or giving oral presentations. He often actively participates in class discussions. He can give more complete responses when allowed to respond orally. In class assignments and tests are often incomplete. He a lot of time on his assignments because writing and typing take more time because he cannot formulate a response properly because his mind is so focused on deciphering what he is trying to write. He is highly enthusiastic and likes to participate in class. He has a lot of friends and is always willing to help out within the classroom. He will often quit before he finishes so to not appear as if he cannot keep up with his peers.
